Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Friday, from 7:00am to 2:00pm. We also have a Corporate Volunteer Program and a Community Volunteer Program on the third Saturday of every month.
Due to the current economic recession and the current water crisis, we are seeing a greater need for our services during the week. We are currently scheduling more Neighborhood Markets and Drought Distributions during the week. Neighborhood Markets bring fresh produce and other kinds of food directly into the community, "farmers market style" so that individuals can choose which foods they want. Drought Distributions distribute emergency food supplies to clients on the west side of Fresno County.
We need volunteers to assist us with distributing food at these upcoming events; please contact us
if you are interested in receiving dates, times, and locations for these upcoming events. We also anticipate a greater need for volunteers to sort and repackage food for these programs at our distribution center this summer.

Signing up to volunteer is easy!
1. The first step is to review our current opportunities and our calendar by downloading the above documents. We have daytime and weekend opportunities for your convenience.
2. The next step in volunteering is to contact the Volunteer Department to sign up for a volunteer shift. Please call (559) 237-3663 and ask for Leslie Gacad or Diana Herber.
3. The next step is to let the Volunteer Department know how many people will be coming.
4. The next step is to complete the Volunteer Information Form for every member of your group. If anyone has volunteered at Community Food Bank in the past year, they do not need to complete the form again. Volunteers can bring it with them or fill it out on-site.
5. The final step is to ensure that all of your volunteers arrive in close-toed shoes; this is a safety requirement of all volunteers.
What will I do when I arrive?
When you arrive, you will be asked to sign-in on our volunteer log and submit your Volunteer Information Form. We will have blank copies on hand for your convenience.
You could work on any of the following volunteer projects when you arrive:
• Sorting and bagging fresh produce donations
• Boxing or bagging food for our various programs
• Repackaging bulk food items
• Pulling food orders for our partner food agencies
• Miscellaneous office work – filing, stuffing envelopes, cutting labels, etc
Where are you located?
We are located at 3403 E Central Avenue, Fresno CA 93725. You can download directions here.
What is your youth policy?
Volunteers 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult 21 years or older, in a 1:5 ratio of adult to youth. Volunteers 16 and above may come without an adult. Volunteers as young as 10 years of age may assist during the week; we ask that they not miss school unless they are doing a service learning project with a school note. Volunteers as young as 7 may volunteer on Saturdays.
We use Adobe Reader to disseminate information about Community Food Bank and the volunteer program. You can download the software for free at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
Volunteer Lost and Found
If you volunteered recently and left something behind, please contact Diana Herber with the following:
• Date that you volunteered
• A description of the item you are missing
Diana will then check the volunteer lost and found and let you know if your item is there.
