Fast Relay for Free Food

Albertsons Grocery Stores had carts racing through the aisles, all in an effort to help feed those in-need in the Central Valley at the 2nd Annual “Fast Relay for Free Food” on Thursday, June 1 st, 2006 .

Three teams consisting of a local celebrity and a food bank employee ran through the aisles and took as much food as they could in two minutes. Weahter casters Kopi Sotiropulos, Ch. 26, and Collin Jackson, Ch. 47 participated in the this shopping spree. Albertsons totaled each team’s items to determine this year’s winner of the relay. This year Collin Jacksonand CFB employee Katie Johnson won the distinguished Golden Can Award collecting almost $3,000 of food. All of the food collected by each team was donated to the food bank to help in its efforts to end hunger.

“This was a fun event for the food bank and Albertsons. We not only took anything we wanted off the shelves, but we also got to take as much as we wanted,” said Sarah Reyes, Executive Director, Community Food Bank. “Generous contributions such as this one from Albertsons help us to continue our mission of creating a hunger-free Central Valley.”

Officials from Albertsons also presented the Food Bank with a $5,000 check that will benefit CFBprograms that help feed those in-need.
