13th Annual Empty Bowls
March 6, 2008 ~ Valdez Hall
Last years event was awesome, but this year is going to be even better! Empty Bowls 2008 is taking on a whole new theme. We are doing it "Iron Chef Style". Similar to the popular Food Network television show. Community Food Bank is teaming up with Fresno's Institute of Technology to create eight wonderful soups from one secret ingredient. There will be two teams of four students that will battle it out to see who will win the 2008 Empty Bowls soup challenge. Although the soups will be judged by five local judges, all who attend will be able to place their vote for the soup they think is the best. There will be great food, music, entertainment, a silent and live auction with great prizes!
Would you like to be a part of the fun?

Empty Bowls 2007
On March 22nd at the New Exhibit Hall in Downtown Fresno, Community Food Bank hosted the 12th annual Empty Bowls fundraising dinner. This charitable event raised awareness of childhood hunger and proceeds benefited childhood hunger programs sponsored by CFB. These programs include the Kids Café and Mobile Pantry. We’re pleased to report we raised $30,000 this year!
At Empty Bowls, attendees chose from a creative bevy of bowls to taste a variety of gourmet soups. These bowls were handcrafted by local students. All in all, over 600 bowls in a multitude of sizes and colors were available this year . Picking a bowl was the most difficult task of the night. They were all so wonderful that guests wanted to take them all!
Once a bowl was chosen, the rest of the night was a culinary delight. Soups from Poverello House, Fresno Rescue Mission, Whole Foods, Salvation Army ARC, Jim Boy Tacos and other great chefs were available. Even Community Food Bank’s previous CEO, Sarah Reyes, made a delicious soup.
